The most illuminating scenesscene in the film "They Live", would have to be the sceneone from the beginning when the man on the television is talking about the growth of the lower and middle classclasses. This relates to the primary source “Rachel and her Children” by Jonathan Kozol, who writes about the homeless American families in 1988 whose lives were greatly changed. The man on television isin the film is discussing the divide, and continues to say that “they” have created a repressive society and that we are just going along with it. He continues to say that the people of this country are only concerned with their own self gain. This comes from the idea that “greed is good” which was brought onin by Ronald Reagan, who persuaded the nation that it’s okay to be selfish. In another primary source, “Wall Street’s Gekko” they discuss the movie “Wall Street” and the source behind the movie which was the new greed on wall street. This correlates with the current events of the rise of the yuppies, the young urban professionals who were “taking over” America both literally and metaphorically as also stated also in the film.
