Abstract: The comparative study of Hdt. III, 129-130 and of NV Reg. L-LII ed. Tulli, in relation to the chronology and the historical dynamics of the period (522-519 BC), allows to observethe observance of the almost perfect temporal succession between the failure of the Egyptian physicians to heal the King Darius (affected by an ankle dislocation, then well treated by Democedes) and the order given by the sovereign to Udjahorresnet to return home and to restore the offices of the House of Life (in Saïs and/or all over Egypt). A set of historical, philological and cultural reasons suggest correlating the two events, in the light of a new reading of the lacuna at Reg. L of the NV, obtained with the help of modern IT tools.
