Never did I dream as a child that I would marry a man that would take the lives of two
innocent people. In 2001 I met a man who was tall, dark, and handsome. He was strong, kind and
caring. He was the safety, stability, and security I was searching for. Little did I know, these
characteristics were only a façade of what was stirring deep within him. Our attraction was
instant and intense. UpsWe had ups and downs, but his dark side would come out soon enough. His anger
was fierce, and often directed towards me. In paralyzing fear, leaving was not an option. The one
and only time I got the strength to leave, I ran far. This would be short lived. He found me,
threatened my family, I had no choice but to return back to him. Police couldn’t stop him, so how
could I? I will never forget my momsmom’s words as she drove me back to him, “I can’t believe I’m
delivering my daughter to the man that is going to kill you.” That statement has and will forever
be etched in my memory.
In 2004, standing in a living room, surrounded by his family and my Pastor, I was about
to say “I do”. It was nothing fancy, since it was a small, dark room, with brown walls and carpet to match. On January
31, 2004, I officially took the name of this man, proudly with pride. ThisHowever, this feeling would quickly change. I
woke up early one morning to his rustling in the room, and saw him packing everything we possessed, with no
explanation, no warning. weWe were on the run. Our first stop was a hotel room, which happened to be very dark one
