Theme paragraph ‘Born in Sin’

In the text, Born in Sin by Evelyn Coleman. The author examines that friendship is a tough commitment, that caresultse in battles between friends, but creates a lifelong connection. FInirstially, the main characters, Betty and Keisha, develop a friendship by being put in a program for ‘at -risk teens’. Keisha and Betty dexperievncelop their first downfall when Betty believes Keisha wants to take her over -aged boyfriend and quits the swim team, " 'you the one trippin’. And think on it.
I thought you was you was my girl." Yeah. You wanting to be somebody’s girl, all right for you, though', she said. 'By the way, give me back my bracelet'”(pg 142). Betty says this to Keisha which ends their friendship at one point in the story. This shows that friendship does have its battles and leads to a pause between friends. Secondly, after the pause betweein their friendship, Betty is impregnated by Jeebie ( over -aged boyfriend - that is the main creauseon fofr the ending of their friendship) , who stabs her in the stomach and causes her to loses her baby. This unites the friendship and Keisha rushes to the hospital to visit her at -risk friend, “ Betty.! Betty, can you hear me? I'm here with, girl. I know you ain't still mad at me. You my best friend, ain't nobody change that.”( pg 183). Keisha making amends with Betty proves that friendship can go continue despite a break buand it will always find its way again. With this being said, Betty and Keisha fredindscover their friendship again through another crisis. Thirdly Betty and Keisha go thexperoughience another rough patch when Keisha is almost raped by Betty's boyfriend “Jeebie”. Betty comes to a realization seeing her friend brutally hurt, “”I made this bracelet for you,” Betty said. I turned to face her but made no attempt to take the bracelet. “Here,” she said, lpaycing it acronss my forehead. “ I won't take this one back. It's gon’ look stupid on ur head, though.””( pg 257). Betty's gestures towards Keisha with the bracelet proves that friendships do have battles, but the end result is a longtime friend ship like Betty and Keisha's. The author was trying to prove that a gsoolid friendship will always make its way back in the end. In conclusion, to all this information, Keisha and Betty's relationship was a perfect example to prove that friendships aren't easy, and in the long run good friendships always lasts. As a whole, in society people know that the toughest thing people struggle with the most is, keeping good friends around. Betty and Keisha's journey of friendship will show viewers, and readers, that friendships aren't easy, no doubt but all it takes is two willing people to make it work.
