There are 10 unconventional independent movies of India that you will not regret after watching.
Every year, numbers of Iindependent films are being made, but how many of you know or have heard about them? Bollywood may be the ruling king, but independent films aren't far behind. I know many of you haven't seen these movies listed below. Independent films are making their mark and own identity in the film world. This genre of films exhibits the real and core story that connects us deeply, but sadly, for the majority watching a movie, it is all about entertainment and they skip these kinds of offbeat movies.
Here are few movies that I liked and also suggest my viewers to see.:
Margarita with a sStraw
An extraordinary movie with brilliant execution and acting that tells the story of a teenage Indian girl with Ccerebral Ppalsy, how she copes with her disability, and her growing self. Not only this thit's focused on the taboo, it describes collective human conditions physically, emotionally, and psychologically. It has received worldwide appreciation and honor in NY film festival, Washington dcDC International film festival, got premiered at the Toronto International film festival.
Fandry
An amazing Indian Marathi language film, and a must watch one from my list. The story simply tells the bitter truth that we are surrounded with (-caste based racism but in a different way).
Titli
The movie was screened at the Cannes International film festival. It showcases Titli, a young member of a car-jacking family, and his desperation to escape from his family. I personally liked Shashank Arora's part.
Dhanak
It's a very heart-warming story of a little boy and his sister. It is available on Netflix, so don't miss it.
Sulemani Keeda
From my list of unconventional movies, "Sulemani Keeda" is a movie that I recommend you to watch. AIt is a dramatic comedy which depicts the story of two struggling writers who are trying their luck in Bollywood, but no producer is ready to buy their script.
Tasher Desh
Bengalis are obsessed with Rabindranath Tagore, and the director Qaushiq Mukherjee has a very unusual way of filmmaking that has brought him a name as well as accolades throughout the Indian film industry. On a special note, some might not like this movie as it's a surreal film, filled with fantasy filled. You need to keep your mind wide open.
Brahman Naman
One more piece of work by "Q"; a story where Naman, the protagonist, is a Brahmin and his absolute inability to shake his caste prejudices. In-depth, it shows the very existence of social taboo. The issues have been shown in the movie in a hilarious manner.
Killa
I have seen this Marathi language movie, and trust me, I just loved the simplicity, use of local places, and it brings forth a refreshing aspect in the movie. A very simple story of a boy, his friendship, his growing up, etc. This movie is very observational. I can guarantee you won't regret.
Ship of Theseus
This film won the National film award for the Best Feature film and many more awards. It isn't a box office success, but those who have seen it say they knew how much thought provoking it is. It is a story of three people: a photographer, an ailing monk, and a stock broker, and their self-contained beliefs.
Liar's dice
I can't really describe what the story is about. Just find a suitable time and watch it, I suggest. It's so engrossing. I was really overwhelmed by the choice of movie I made which is worth watching on a Friday afternoon. Kudos to Geetanjali Thapa for portraying Kamala.
