There were a lot of problems that Lincoln wanted to solve. Lincoln Steffens specialized in investing government and political corruption. He wanted to expose the corruption in the government & wanted to show the people theat votes for the government wasere fraud and they would use political machines to add fake votes, in the presidential/mayor elections. Also, the awful conditions & tainted food used in the process. Lincoln also wanted to expose the use of bribery in political events, such as elections. Bribes were also used to make people change their mind, for example in court. Senator John Hipple, senator was involved with the Oregon Land Fraud. He was convicted while being a sitting Senator. Senator Joseph R. Burton, Senator, was convicted by bribery in 1904, on the charge of illegally receiving compensation for his services rendered before a federal department, he served 5 months in prison. Henry B. Cassel in 1909, Cassel was convicted of fraud, related to the construction of the Pennsylvania State Capitol.
