Such groups are proved to be successful at the refugee programs ain the Netherlands where peer and professional support are provided while also being assessed on an ongoing basis for the need of further professional treatment (Uitterhaegen, 2005). This helps ntot onlybe effective not only for the refugees only, but also for the residents with refugee background to build social support and learn self help strategies to problem solve on their own (Uitterhaegen, 2005). Participants are reported to get validation for their living situations and normalize their experience with the group members with similar problems (Uitterhaegen, 2005). This provides the participants with a sense of relief and comfort.
