Pain. That is how a painkiller need starts, with pain. 44 Americans die every day from prescription drug overdose. Pain pills can have different names such as oxycodone, hydrocodone and morphine, but they serve the same purpose, stopping pain. This is how many overdoses start, the patient feels that the drug isn't working enough, the patient will take one more, and one more, and one more. Without even realizing it, the patient has just eingulfested thirty pills and cost them their life. Four out of five heroin addicts started out with prescription pain killers. Many people feel that instead of handing people these prescription pain killers, first have the patients receive therapy or other medications. Dr. Klapheke said, “It is the doctor’s fault and that painkillers should not be given out so easily to the patients.”
