The reason why I want to do this work under your program is that the literature and Ottoman modernization have a great place among the special emphases of the department. Another reason is that there are many elective courses that focus on my theses subject, such as the crisis of the manhood in novels, Gender, Aesthetics and Gender in the Ottoman Culture. I am also excited to interact with Pprofessors who will guide me like Uslu and Altuğ whose work is closest to what I want to pursue. Together, Professor Altuğ's Ottoman literary-cultural history and gender studies research and Professor Uslu's knowledge of culture theory and masculinity studies would make my experience at Şehir challenging and enjoyable one because of its outstanding faculty and interdisciplinary approach to culture. Professor Altuğ and Uslu’s book, Tanzimat ve Edebiyat, stands out among the many books I read during my undergraduate education; and I credit his book with introducing me to the fascinating field of the history of culture in the Ottoman Empire over the Ottoman Literature.

The cross-disciplinary nature of Şehir's graduate program will encourage discussions with other departments, notably the department of hHuman and sSocial sSciences, thus broadening and enriching my research.
