ArtThe art world is becoming globalized and many more markets and cities would be open to become art hubs. One by one they would obtain required elements. Museums, schools and other institutions tend to gather in one place, keeping art fairs as a moveable feast.
With general similarity, each city has its own recipe. London has become an art hub thanks to collectors coming in to buy. It got the whole range of elements – great institutions, highly developed commercial scene, world class galleries. But it becomes too expensive for most
of artists, who are forced to move out and sustain their community elsewhere. Political changes can also leave its negative impact on a city’s status as an art capital.
Cape Town is a symbol of
an emerging art market, which has been discussed for years now. The way it develops is different from the Westernwestern world, due to the different alignment of forces on the art scene. Gallery scene plays an important role in the development of an art city, and Cape Town might become the first example of a city becoming an art capital without having a strong infrastructure.
