1. BACKGROUND
The healthcareHealthcare expenditure in Singapore has increased twiceto twice the amount, from $11 billion in 2010 to $21 billion in 2016 (Khalik, 2019). The National Research Foundation provides S$19 billion for investment for the RIE2020 plan, and S$4 billion of it is invested in the research of Health and Biomedical Science (Economic Development Board, 2018). According to Garner (2015), it is estimated that additionalan additional $1.40 is produced in other parts of Singapore’s economy for every $1 spent in the pharmaceutical industry, and this will help to improve Singapore’s economy. Thus, this paper will be talking about how does investment in research and development in Artificial Intelligence [AI], biomedical technology, and biosensors in healthcare helphelps build the future of Singapore.
