The narrator, Panashe Chigumadzi, has begun her essay with an introduction to the overall topic concerning immigration to South Africa. In the second part, Chigumadzi writes about how immigration has influenced the population in South Africa today, and how immigration has led to violence, because of Afrophobia. The third part of the essay is about Chigumadzi's own story.
In the essay, Chigumadzi switches back and forth between her own story and informational facts to keep the reader interested. The essay, 'Why is South Africa still so anti-black, so many years after
apartheid?''apartheid?' is divided into two main stories, one being Chigumadzi's personal story, and another being about the violence the immigration has caused.

In the essay, Panashe Chigumadzi points out South Africa's
'' miracle''“miracle” transition into democracy. It has, in her opinion, failed. She says that the ''miracle''“miracle”, which was started by Nelson Mandela, has turned into violence. Chigumadzi believes that one of the reasons the project has failed is because of the Afrophobia against immigrants from North Africa. Chigumadzi also finds interest in the economic structure of South Africa, since she finds South Africa's welfare very unfair.

Chigumadzi has a strong opinion on her own story. The story is about how she, as a child, immigrated with her family from Zimbabwe to South Africa. They immigrated because her dad was recruited to staff the public hospitals. In her new class, she was bullied, because of her emigration from Zimbabwe. ¨

Chigumadzi is trying to send a message, filled with value. She wants the reader to actively listen to her message, and she wants to educate the receiver in her way of seeing the topic. Chigumadzi is interestingly spreading the news about immigration. She uses lots of factual information, which keeps the reader interested in her topic, she also uses her own story which makes the reader more curious.
