Social interaction for elders
Scope
Due to the COVID 19, PandemicCOVID-19 pandemic, people arehave been advised to maintainpractice social distancedistancing. We must think aboutconsider all the ways thatin which the pandemic affects older people's lives beyond morbidity and mortality from the virus itself. We are concerned about people experiencing social isolationthat as a result of not being able to have visitors and not being able to go out and do things with other peoplesocial distancing, people will also suffer from social isolation. The effects are compounded for any older person who does not havelacks access to technology platforms likesuch as Skype and FaceTime, or who has limited access to phone calls.
Our goal is to provide social interaction forto elders with the help of technology. We can train and supportssupport volunteers to provide companionship and resource navigation assistance to seniors, which includes remote options such as phone calls. Even phone calls will not work for all seniors, particularly those who are hard of hearinghard-of-hearing. In that case, we suggest writing letters. We will get the grandkids involved by asking them to makewrite a card.
