The theorist that I selected is Erik Erickson, and his theory is Psychosocial Development. And from my understanding Erik believes a young childrenchild’s personality develops in a predetermined order through eight stages of psychosocial development from infant to adulthood. A person experiencing a psychosocial crisis can have either a positive or negative outcome in personality development. hisHis stages also address the entire lifespan that can help adults understand how to support children’s social and emotional development. I have seen Erik EricksonErickson’s ideals applied in a classroom setting. whenWhen working with young children, we allow them to choose their own book to read for story time, and that gives them the opportunity onto learn how to make decisions for themselves. Another example in my ECE117 class we use is Erick EricksonErickson’s stage Industry vs. Inferiority. myMy instructor had us set a goal that we had for the class and told us to remember it because we’re going to revisit that goal at the end of class.
