Another reason why I admire Ralph is that he is more mature than the other characters. In numerous situations, he shows how he understands the importance of the fire. On one occasion, when the tribe had split up, and the only people left in his tribe were Ralph, Piggy, Samn'Eric and a couple of "littluns", JacksJack’s tribe had snuck up in the night and stole Piggy's glasses, the only source to make fire. In the morning, Ralph and the remainder of his tribe went to JacksJack’s tribe to try and take them back. Ralph states, "Which is better, law and rescue, or hunting and breaking things up?". This shows that Ralph believes in law, order, and working towards the common good – in this case, rescue, while Jack prioritizes hunting, chaos, and living for the moment. Ralph pleads many times with Jack and the others to see reason, to work together and help him build a civilisation.
