The Little Boy, the first nuclear weapon, was dropped over Hiroshima on August 6 of 1945. This horrific and deadly weapon was created in order to inflict damage on this Japanese city, which resulted at the end of World War II in Japan. To provide background information, the United States was competing with Germany, as well as other European countries, over who would build and drop an atomic bomb first. Despite the fact that the United States beat Germany to dropping an atomic bomb, the decision to drop the bomb should not have been made because it resulted in many negative outcomes. Overall, the United States'States’ horrible decision to drop Little Boy resulted in many lives being lost.
The high number of casualties that the dropping of the atomic bomb resulted in was one of the many negative factors the United
State’sStates’ irrational decision caused. To emphasize, there were not only a high number of casualties, due to the bomb being dropped, but the people who lived in Hiroshima also experienced painful deaths. For example, the radiation, produced by the bomb, burns people’s clothing which leads to their skin (Popkin). To go on, more information shows that, “More than 100,000 people died from the sheer force of the explosions and the searing temperatures, which nearly reached 4,000 Celsius, hot enough to boil tiles and vaporize people unlucky enough to be in the immediate vicinity” (Popkin). This explains that many innocent civilians lost their lives. Furthermore, this also proves that the United States should not have dropped an atomic bomb to this degree because the United States hurt innocent civilians, and not the actual people who were behind the war. To end, the United States should not have decided to drop the atomic bomb on uninvolved civilians of Hiroshima, who had nothing to do with the war itself.
