November 4, 1962, in Saigon, Vietnam, my grandparents had their first child, my father, one of seven more to come. Being a child is one of the best times of your life, well at least it was for my dad. He had a great childhood, growing up with neighborhood friends and younger siblings. But soon this easy lifestyle was over. Life in Vietnam, as the oldest child, definitely wasn’t easy for my dad. He had the responsibility of helping his siblings and parents around the house. He had a hard and busy life, living in Vietnam for sixteen years. Attending school, it was like a competition against other students. The and the schools there were tougher and more challenging than here in America. Living in Vietnam, there waswere limited opportunities which was one contribution toreason for my dad’s final decision ofto immigratingimmigrate to the United States. In addition, communists began invading Vietnam, forcing my dad to flee his home country.
