I believe that Bob Kuhn used emphasis when taking into consideration the principle of design. By placingPlacing one sheep centrally in the format of the painting, and one sheep on either side in the foreground, placesputs emphasis on the sheep in the middle. This placement also gives the painting an asymmetrical balance, while visually not losing any attention from the larger sheep. Lastly, the body language of the sheep keepsdraws the viewer's attention only ononto the action of the sheep running up the mountain, thatwhere the placement of the two hunters in the background is often is.
