Two years ago, it was a cold winter morning in Montana. Sarah wanted to go hiking. She packed her bag for her hike, she packed water, matches, anda small blanket to sit on for lunch, rope, and a big knife. Driving to mountMount Sloan there's, a small visiting centerVisitor's Center at the bottom of the mountain where you can look at the different trials and the difficulty level of each trial. Sarah looked around and decided she was feeling confident, so she wanted to do the hardest trail that day. She had never been up this trail before, and during the winter not many people hiked this trial, if none, but she still wanted to do it. Sarah checked in and wrote her name down so people knew where she was and her expected time back.
Sarah started hiking up the trail and it started out easy. She left at 8:00am in the morning, she wanted to be back by 4:00pm, an hour before dark. The days are short in the heart of the winterswinter in Montana. Hiking up the trail almost to where the trail gets rocky and more difficult, she came along a sign that said caution"Caution Mountain Lions in the areaArea."
She started to worry because she was alone. The thought aboutof turning around boosted her confidence back up. Then she thought “ it'sto herself, 'It's probably just another sighsign to make people worry and hike slower. Like the signs on the highway that say “deer ahead” but never have a deer ahead.' She continued, without caution. itIt started getting rocky, so Sarah slowed down because it was slippery and she wanted to make sure that she had a good grip.
